Business Insider looked at data from the Minnesota Population Center’s IPUMS, a version of 2012 U.S. Census data modified for statistical and privacy reasons, to find the highest median house values in every state.
The North Scottsdale, Northeast Phoenix and Cave Creek area topped the state with a medium house value of $400,000.
Topping the list with as the most expensive place to buy a house in the U.S. is the Palo Alto area. Their median home value: $1.2 million.
The state with the cheapest ceiling on home prices is West Virginia, with a median of $150,000 in its top neighborhood.
