Florence will extend Main Street to highway

The town is planning an “interim extension” of Main Street north and east from downtown to connect with Arizona 79, budgeting $700,000 for the project.

The Town Council approved a resolution accepting easements for the new road last month. Prior to approval, Councilwoman Tara Walter asked how much the new road would cost and which part of the budget would be covering it.

Florence Public Works Director Wayne Costa said the road construction itself would be handled by the Public Works Department, with a double chip-and-seal surface similar to the one on Plant Road.
