New Mesa Mayor John Giles held his first press conference Wednesday since taking over the reins to the city.

Giles told reporters he loves his job and is “settling into” the office.

He also said he’s optimistic that Mesa will have a future with the tech giant Apple. The company partnered with GT Advanced Technologies to take over the abandoned First Solar plant at Signal Butte and Elliott roads.

GT Advanced Technologies produces sapphire glass for Apple products, but the company has filed for bankruptcy and announced it will close its Mesa plant before the end of the year.
