New plans for Greasewood Flat in Scottsdale shelved

The Cavalliere family has withdrawn its plans to rebuild Greasewood Flat in a remote location abutting Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

The plans were put in place after the popular watering hole’s current property was transferred in a probate court sale to a homebuilder. Taylor Morrison Homes’ plans to develop the current property remain in place and will get an initial vote at a Planning Commission hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

The plans for a new Greasewood Flat were aired at an informational Planning Commission hearing in early September. Public opposition was overwhelming, citing traffic and noise in an area near the Tom’s Thumb Trailhead into the preserve. In addition, city planning staff said the Cavalliere family had failed to provide all the information staff needed to make a recommendation on the site.
