Senate Democrats might have given half their caucus a leadership position, but Republicans did them one better by giving everyone but newly elected majority leader Yarbrough a committee chairmanship. The roster of 16 committees, announced this afternoon, includes familiar faces chairing some existing committees. Biggs also created a few new committees for the 52nd Legislature:

Shooter – Appropriations

Barto – Health Human Services

Pierce – Natural Resources

Griffin – Energy

Ward – Education

Driggs – Judiciary

Worsley – Transportation

Kavanagh – Government

Smith – Public Safety, Military and Technology

Lesko – Finance

Yee – Commerce and Workforce Development

Burges – Federalism, Mandates and Fiscal Responsibility

Farnsworth – Financial Institutions

Dial – state debt and budget reform

Allen – Rural Affairs and Environment

Biggs Rules

Speaker David Gowan has created 19 committees for the 52nd Legislature and appointed chairpersons after our deadline on Friday night. A few are new, including County and Municipal Affairs, Elections, and Children and Family Affairs. Olson has been tapped to chair Appropriations Stevens will chair rules and Boyer will get education.
