After successfully defending seats in crucial races, Republicans today met behind closed doors to pick next year’s Senate leaders.

As expected, Senate President Andy Biggs retained his post.

Republicans also selected Sen. Steve Yarbrough, R-Chandler as the next majority leader.

Sen. Gail Griffin, Hereford, will serve as the next majority whip. Griffin will replace Sen. Adam Driggs, R-Phoenix.

Yarbrough will replace Sen. John McComish, who is retiring from the Legislature. McComish last night won his race to become a justice of the peace.

Arizona Capitol Times reported on Twitter David Gowan was elected speaker, and Steve Montenegro was chosen as majority leader.
