[ELECTION UPDATES] Barber-McSally race heads toward potential recount; trio fights for Scottsdale City Council seats

Arizona could be headed toward its first congressional recount ever, as Republican challenger Martha McSally’s lead over incumbent Democratic Rep. Ron Barber dwindled to only 179 votes Monday.

A mandatory recount will occur if either candidate wins the race by fewer than 200 votes. There are still about 6,000 provisional votes left to count in Pima County, although not all of those votes will be in Barber and McSally’s 2nd Congressional District race.

A tight race for Scottsdale City Council seats remained unresolved late Monday, as three candidates were separated by just 70 votes in vying for two of the three seats that were up for grabs.

An outcome was expected by Wednesday night or possibly later because roughly 1,000 provisional county ballots required additional review Monday, a Maricopa County elections spokesman said.

Updated results Monday night showed Linda Milhaven retaining a solid lead for the first available seat. After that, David Smith, Kathy Littlefield and Dennis Robbins were locked in an extremely tight race for two final seats.
