Anti-casino groups fined $75,000 over campaign reports

Two Glendale political groups that oppose a West Valley tribal casino were fined $75,000 earlier this month for four campaign finance violations.

Glendale City Attorney Michael Bailey, in response to a citizen complaint, determined that the aligned groups Respect the Promise and Neighbors for a Better Glendale failed to report campaign donations or expenditures of $10,000 or more in April and August of this year. State law requires the filings to ensure citizens know who is supporting a political cause.

The Gila River Indian Community donated $157,471 to Neighbors for a Better Glendale between June 1 and Aug. 14, according to city records.
