Arizona anxiously awaits ‘tax extenders’ vote [VIDEO]

They go by an obscure title — “tax extenders” — and they always seem to get lost in the hurly-burly of congressional debate every year until the very last moment.

But if these five dozen or so expired tax deductions and credits aren’t renewed it will have a huge financial impact on Arizonans — from taking $250 out of the pockets of teachers who spend their own money on classroom supplies to higher tax bills for companies that spend heavily on research and development.

The House is to vote as soon as today on a one-year extension to the tax breaks. The provisions expired at the end of 2013, so the proposed extension would restore them retroactively through the end of this year, allowing people and businesses to take advantage of them on tax returns they file next year.
