Goldwater library delayed; fundraising goals unmet

Construction on a $30 million downtown Mesa library designed to honor the late Sen. Barry Goldwater will be delayed for up to a year after the private foundation behind the development failed to meet fundraising goals in time.

The city has finalized a one-year lease-agreement extension with the Barry and Peggy Goldwater Center for Democracy, giving it a new deadline of Dec. 31, 2015, to begin construction on the Barry and Peggy Goldwater Library and Archives.
