The city of Coolidge’s benefits consultant, concerned with the confusion and misperceptions that followed a testy meeting before the city council, wants to make sure nobody panics at the current state of the city’s insurance plan.
Rebecca Chang of the Mahoney Group presented the council on Nov. 24 with an update on the city’s new self-funded insurance plan, which was a departure from the fully insured plan the city had used previously. The news she provided, which included an extra $216,899.54 in costs due to employees using out-of-network hospitals, alarmed several people in the room.
