It’s hardly an ideal time for the City of Maricopa to pay off a large outstanding debt, but that’s the position it was forced into at last Monday’s city council meeting.
The city approved $709,000 for a development agreement with multiple entities – including Eagle Shadow, Desert Sunrise, Dawn Rider and Honeycutt Estates – for improvements to the Santa Cruz Wash.
It was approved reluctantly by the council because mayor Christian Price and City attorney Denis Fitzgibbons indicated there was no way of backing out due to prior acceptance of the agreement by the City. Price questioned whether the City had an option of not signing the agreement.
