Arizona’s new campaign contribution limits pumped an additional $8.6 million from individual contributors into the 2014 election, with Governor-elect Doug Ducey accounting for nearly a quarter of that extra money.
Under the old limits of $912 for statewide contests and $440 for legislative races, state-level candidates would have raised about $9.5 million from individuals in 2014, based on an Arizona Capitol Times analysis of all contributions that exceeded the old limits. But with the dramatically increased limits, which allow individuals to give up to $4,000 to a campaign, candidates were able to raise a total of $18.1 million in the recently ended election cycle.
