Camacho picked to lead GPEC

Chris Camacho has become the fourth CEO and president of Greater Phoenix Economic Council. He has been serving as interim president since Barry Broome stepped aside to take a similar role with the Greater Sacramento Area Economic Council in California.

In a special meeting Thursday morning, the GPEC Board of Directors unanimously selected Camacho for the role without going through a search of potential candidates.

In an interview a year ago, Broome said he was proud of his team at GPEC and specifically said Camacho was ready to take reins of an economic development organization. When rumors were ripe that a major Phoenix leader was heading to Sacramento, some thought Camacho was the one, not Broome.
