Former Arizona Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes won a legal victory over the National Hockey League over financial losses after the team’s 2009 bankruptcy.
The NHL had sued Moyes, who is the chairman and CEO of Phoenix-based Swift Transportation, seeking $145 million in damages in the wake of the Coyotes’ Chapter 11 bankruptcy and ownership void that left the league running the franchise until 2013.
U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Redfield T. Baum recommended a federal court hearing the case rule in Moyes’ favor and against the NHL which lost $112 million running the Glendale-based franchise from 2009 to 2013.
