Between the proposed PhoenixMart and Overfield Farms developments, thousands of acres of farmland in Casa Grande east of Interstate 10 could someday be transformed into a sprawling residential and commercial area.
As more cotton fields are pegged for future houses, warehouses, condos and commercial space, some people are asking if there is enough water to support potentially thousands more homes and businesses.
“Water and development is a dog-chasing-its-tail situation in growth areas,” said Dick Powell, a Casa Grande City Council member and agricultural advocate. “Rooftops are wonderful, but you’ve gotta have enough water for them.”
