Shutting the door: House Republicans ‘sensitive’ about caucus meetings

Republicans voted today to allow themselves to meet in secret, closed-door discussions for any reason they see fit.

On a party-line vote, Republicans supported the change to House rule 36 to allow caucuses to be conducted behind closed doors away from the public, media and lobbyists.

House Republican Leader Steve Montenegro of Litchfield Park said the closed caucus meetings would only be used in limited circumstances.

“This isn’t something that will be done frequently, this is going to be done when and if sensitive matters arise,” he said.
