Supervisors seem on track to approve land for MMJ grow

Attitudes are changing about marijuana across the country, and the Pinal County Board of Supervisors has taken notice.

Sean Dugan, owner of Side- winder Dairy in Casa Grande, has requested a zoning text amendment to use some of his land for outdoor medical marijuana grow sites. The request is for six grow sites, each 10 acres.

The issue has been before the county Planning and Zoning Commission, which voted 9-1 to pass a recommendation on to the supervisors to deny the request.

Deputy Pinal County Attorney Seymour Gruber spent about 30 minutes telling supervisors about the potential dangers of having outdoor grow sites in Pinal County. At one point, he put up a slide showing the percentage of high school students who use marijuana. He was trying to show a correlation between states that have legal medical

marijuana and an increase in marijuana usage by high school students, but the board wasn’t buying it.
