Want your state legislator to serve 4 years?

Hoping to give Arizona legislators some breathing room between elections, Sen. John Kavanagh introduced legislation that would double the length of Arizona representatives and senators’ terms.

Legislators now run for officer every two years. Kavanagh, R-Fountain Hills, wants four-year terms while maintaining the current limit of eight consecutive years in office in either chamber of the Legislature.

Lawmakers can now serve no more than four consecutive terms – Kavanagh’s resolution, SCR1009, would limit that to two consecutive terms.
