A Phoenix lawyer has avoided serious discipline for calling a client a “drug dealer,” “a loser” and threatening to sue over an unpaid retainer in a series of obscenity-laced e-mails.
Dennis Wilenchik told his client in an e-mail last year that he “looked forward to the many nights and mornings when you think of my name and squeal,” a reference to the movie “Deliverance.” The 1972 movie is notorious for a scene of male rape.
The unidentified client filed a police report claiming to be “in fear of his life and well-being,” and told officers that Wilenchik “threatened to do him like the movie ‘Deliverance,'” according to court documents.
