No one is particularly pleased with Pinal County Sheriff’s Office detention officers and other staff losing their jobs after recent layoffs, but now there’s a fight over who’s responsible.
Not surprisingly, that fight is between sheriff Paul Babeu and the Pinal County Board of Supervisors. The two sides have battled many times before, mostly over issues related to the sheriff’s budget.
This time, it was Babeu firing the first shot regarding a contract the County had with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to house immigrant detainees at the Pinal County Jail in Florence.
