Crow rips Ducey’s higher-ed budget in e-mail to alumni

Arizona State University President Michael Crow criticized Gov. Doug Ducey’s proposed $75 million cut to the state university system in an e-mail to alumni Thursday, saying the recommendation signals that higher education is a “low priority in Arizona.”

Crow’s e-mail said the governor’s proposal reverses several major decisions made by the Arizona Board of Regents and the state about how state funding for higher education should be allocated.

His comments marked a change in tone for the president of the nation’s largest public university. Until this point, he had been largely measured in his remarks toward Ducey’s proposed cuts.
