Cyber child abuse: A battle for $5M for child Internet victims
By Hank Stephenson | Arizona Capitol Times
Gov. Doug Ducey released his budget proposal for the upcoming year, Republican Rep. Paul Boyer of Phoenix had only one question.
Did the proposal include the $5 million he requested to fund a task force dedicated to rescuing children who are victims of some of the most heinous acts imaginable, and putting the perpetrators behind bars?
To Boyer’s dismay, it didn’t.
Now Boyer is fighting an uphill battle to get funding for the program from a cash-strapped budget in which nearly everyone’s priorities are shouldering more cuts.
The Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce tracks the trading of child pornography online, identifies the traders and, when they’re lucky, saves lives of children who are subject to rape, torture and sex slavery.
