Valley businessman Rakesh “Rocky” Pahwa, who has tried four times in recent years to locate a medical marijuana dispensary in Florence, has applied to Pinal County to locate one in a county island, just outside the town limits, off Arizona 79B.
The county Planning & Zoning Commission is tentatively scheduled to hear the application on April 16.
The county Board of Supervisors would hear the case next.
The supervisors have approved two dispensaries in the past, one in the Maricopa area and one in the Oracle area.
County code forbids a dispensary to be closer than 10 miles from another dispensary, or closer than 1,500 feet from a child care center, library, public park, church or drug or alcohol treatment facility.
