West Valley casino takes shape as construction goes vertical

West Valley residents passing by 95th and Northern avenues can get a glimpse of the future West Valley Resort being built by the Tohono O’odham Nation.

With the arrival of its multimillion dollar steel order, work on the site has gone vertical as hundreds of workers are raising the framework for the casino-resort’s first permanent structure. The interim gaming facility is scheduled to open during the fourth quarter of 2015, officials said.

The Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise has retained 40 separate companies thus far for construction and continues its commitment to hiring locally. Eighty-five percent of these companies have offices in the Phoenix metro area, officials said. More than 1,300 workers have been contracted to work on the project so far, according to a press release from the Tohono O’odham Nation.
