Phoenix, Tucson and eight other metro areas in the Rocky Mountain region ended 2014 with solid if not robust economic gains, according to a new study.

Most of the 10 metro areas in the region had higher economic output, housing prices and employment gains with lower unemployment rates compared with the third quarter, according to the Brookings Mountain West survey.

“With only a few exceptions, every metro area registered advances on every indicator,” according to the study by the Brookings Institution and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. “Such widespread progress heretofore eluded the region, where recovery from the Great Recession has been characterized by unevenness.”
