Three developer teams are in the running for the $1.9 billion design-build-maintain contract of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway, said Arizona Department of Transportation.

The three multi-discipline teams are Connect 202 Partners, South Mountain Development Group and South Mountain Mobility Group, each including a number of development-related companies.

ADOT plans to issue the final Request for Proposals late this spring, with final award of the agreement expected at the end of the year, a news release says.

The contract includes the design, construction, and 30-year maintenance of the last section of the Loop 202 Freeway.

The new stretch will run 22 miles from the Maricopa Freeway segment of Interstate 10 to the Papago Freeway segment of the I-10 in the southwest Phoenix Metropolitan Area.

The freeway received final approval from the Federal Highway Administration earlier this month, allowing ADOT to move forward with the project.

Now the agency can begin the process of acquiring right of way, complete the design and begin construction of the 22-mile-long freeway, according to a release.
