Florence firefighters file suit over decades of alleged Social Security tax snafu

The town improperly withheld Social Security taxes from firefighters’ paychecks for perhaps 30 years until last year.

Florence firefighters are seeking reimbursement in a lawsuit filed Feb. 3 in Pinal County Superior Court, naming the town of Florence and other defendants yet to be specified.

The town says the firefighters have been reimbursed with interest for tax years 2011-2013, apparently the only years they can still claim.

But the firefighters say the town is still holding out on them by keeping the refund it received for its matching contributions.
