The state’s most populous county continues to grow — and rapidly — as the rest of the state struggles to keep up.
New figures from the U.S. Census Bureau show Maricopa County added 74,027 new residents in the 12 months ending July 1 — enough to make it the second-largest spurt growth of any county in the nation, exceeded only by Harris County, Texas, where Houston is located.
But the bigger issue for the rest of Arizona is how much faster Maricopa County is growing than the other 14 counties.
CORRECTION: The original story stated Pinal County had added 110,000 new residents. The correct figure is 11,000.
