The days of doubt about the massive PhoenixMart project are behind us, Casa Grande Mayor Bob Jackson told a crowd of 150 or so at Thursday’s state of the city address.
Jackson, delivering his summation of the last year and offering glimpses into the future of Casa Grande, said the No. 1 topic that people want to talk about with him still is PhoenixMart. The 1.7 million-square-foot sourcing center planned on East Florence Boulevard is advancing, Jackson said.
“We feel better today than we have in a long time that it will be moving forward,” he said. The city has issued a foundation permit for the project and city officials are reviewing the fire code analysis. Once terms of the fire code analysis are agreed upon, “they will be building soon,” the mayor said. Current city fire codes don’t address such large buildings, slowing that process a bit.
