Sustainable Verde Dimora Apartments, preschool coming to Mesa

Mesa

MesaToday, an increasing number of community leaders, building professionals and residents are learning how green building can help them create better neighborhoods and address quality-of-life and environmental issues.

Dan Kauffman, Principal of Kauffman Real Estate and Development, has announced the development of a new multi-family community in Mesa.

The Verde Dimora Apartments, located at Power Road and McKellips, 2217 N. Power Road, will feature a 153-unit sustainable multi-family residential development along with a sustainable preschool.

The public is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Verde Dimora offers sensible, development and construction techniques that improve the development’s economic viability while providing broad-based economic and community benefits. Some examples include newly designed site strategies to reduce the overall urban heat island effect in sustainable infill development resulting in increased economic vitality while leveraging the existing infrastructure and available public transportation.

Developments in a transit-oriented, pedestrian-friendly community make it easier for people to do without a car or to drive less. Verde Dimora will offer incentives to residents not to have a car and will allow the use of bicycles provided by the developer during the resident’s lease terms. There will be secured and enclosed bicycle storage areas on each floor, including bicycle workstations.

Adjacent to Mesa Community College at Red Mountain campus, Verde Dimora will add a sustainable preschool to the immediate community. Dr. Annapurna Ganesh, MCC early child care and education program director said, “The sustainable preschool next door would allow students from the Red Mountain Campus to be able to participate at the preschool with internships and course specific practicum assignments.”

Verde Dimora also incorporates a Veteran Center, specifically designed for use by resident veterans. The developer is also working closely with the existing retail stores on McKellips and McDowell to create a website that will highlight local employment opportunities within walking distance of the community.

Verde Dimora goes even further to help educate its residents about sustainability.

“Our residents will be provided valuable information upon move-in that many renters and homeowners do not have, such as how to read your electric and water bills and proper recycling. Our education will help our residents understand ways in which they can reduce their monthly costs by changing behaviors,” Kauffman said.

Verde Dimora amenities include a swimming pool with clubhouse, fitness center, meditation gardens, BBQ areas, fire pit, dog wash station, electric car charge stations, and community garden plots. Sustainable and green friendly components are incorporated into the building design and construction.

Each apartment unit will feature Energy Star appliances, energy efficient water fixtures, CFL lighting, low-E dual pane windows, low-emitting insulation, low-VOC paint, flooring and sealants, high-efficiency air conditioning, and sub-metered water. A property-wide recycling program will be available to encourage more resident participation.

Verde Dimora was designed by architect, Mark Dohrmann of Dohrmann Architects, Inc. and financed by Academy Bank, a division of Armed Forces Bank, N.A. DECCA Multi-Family Builders, Inc. is the general contractor and the development is scheduled to be complete by spring of 2016.
