Phoenix has a new vision for Fillmore Street, where more than 11 acres of land sit vacant or unused in the western part of downtown.
City and developer projects launching this year include potential plans for shaded walkways, patio cafes, a school and space for more than 1,000 new residents on the largest chunk of undeveloped land in the city’s core.
Most of that land — 7.4 acres — will be developed as part of an agreement with the city. The city owns the land south of Fillmore Street between Fourth and Sixth avenues after collaborating with the Phoenix Industrial Development Authority on parts of the purchase.
