The Arizona Legislature every year introduces, and often approves, bills creating new ways to keep government information from reaching the public eye. This from a body that fathoms itself a bastion of freedom, the last defense against onerous regulation and overbearing government interference in private affairs.
This session, both houses notably approved legislation to keep secret for 60 days the names of law-enforcement officers involved in deadly or serious-injury shootings. Gov. Doug Ducey vetoed the bill, saying he feared it might do more damage than good.
