A philosophical debate among members of the Coolidge City Council about the role of local government has transitioned into whether to continue offering public transportation.
Assistant City Manager Jill Dusenberry presented the council, as she does every year, with an application seeking $793,006 from the Arizona Department of Transportation for the transit program that includes Cotton Express and Central Arizona Regional Transit. Every year, ADOT has given the city some money for the services.
If ADOT funds the full request, the city would be required to match a total of $387,193.
