A little more than a year after announcing a new recycling plant at the Glendale Municipal Landfill, Vieste LLC has filed a notice of claim against the City of Glendale for $200 million for breach of contract.
The city has filed a counter-claim asking that the court force Vieste to fulfill the original contract terms.
“Without getting into the minutiae, the city was told that the agreement would come at no cost to the city,” Glendale City Attorney Michael Bailey said. “We are seeking clarification on certain legal points to ensure that the deal does not cost the city, as originally promised.”
The original deal, which was negotiated in 2012, was a two-phase relationship between Vieste and the City of Glendale with phase 1 being the construction of the waste facilities to sort recyclable materials from a stream of acceptable waste to be supplied by the city.
