Local television news staffs often are often turned over across the nation like flipping flapjacks. Reporters and anchors move on to better jobs, network gigs, or their ratings force them to look elsewhere for employment.
Even without studying other markets, it’s fair to say Phoenix television news departments are among the most stable in the country.
You might have noted that after more than 30 years at 12 News, Lin Sue Cooney is signing off to join the executive team at Hospice of the Valley. She is the daughter-in-law of the late C.E. “Pep” Cooney, longtime general manager at KPNX 12.
But it appears FOX 10 journalists have the most staying power, anchored by Dave Munsey, who’s in his 40th year there
Here’s the Fox 10 rundown: Linda Williams, 34 years; Ron Hoon 31 years;
Steve Kraft 30+; Rick D’Amico 28+, and John Hook and Jude LaCava 22 years each.
It’s worth noting Kent Dana retired after 30-plus years in local TV, mostly at !2 News, where his son, Joe, is in his 12th year on the news staff.
