New Jersey company buying SkyMall in bankruptcy auction

A New Jersey company that makes and markets everything from Polaroid photo equipment to kitchen gadgets has emerged as the new owner of Phoenix-based SkyMall.

C&A Marketing is paying $1.9 million for the bankrupt online retailer, which is best known for offering quirky consumer products through catalogs placed in the pockets or flaps of airline seats. Along with $1 million in cash, C&A Marketing is issuing a promissory note for $900,000.

The purchase was scheduled to close by Wednesday, said Chaim Pikarski, executive vice president and co-owner of C&A Marketing, during a stop in Phoenix.
