Never mind a 2013 state court ruling that found that Arizona’s gaming compact doesn’t explicitly exclude Native American tribes (in this case the Tohono O’odham) from building and operating a casino in metro Phoenix.
The Arizona Gaming Commission, backed by Governor Doug “George Custer” Ducey, has fired a warning shot the tribe’s way, growling that it will not authorize the opening of the tribe’s $400 million resort casino (presently under construction at Northern Avenue and the Loop 101) because of “fraud” that the tribe has supposedly “perpetrated upon the state, Arizona gaming tribes and the state’s voters.”
Meanwhile, the tribe is continuing with its construction being done by 1,300 workers which will, when finished, feature 1,089 slot machines, along with restaurants and bars.
