An attempt by grassroots conservatives to close next year’s GOP primary to independent voters fell flat after the Arizona Republican Party’s executive committee decided not to spend money on the lawsuit it would take to accomplish that goal.
The executive committee on Saturday voted “overwhelmingly” against a proposal to authorize up to $75,000 for a lawsuit aimed at closing the Republican primary, according to statement from the state GOP. The committee also rejected a proposal to recess the meeting so it could further
review the matter.
