A Tempe councilman thinks it’s time for his city to grab a piece of the burgeoning trade market with Mexico.
So Councilman Joel Navarro is working on plans to attract some of the roughly $16 billion in trade last year between Mexico and Arizona into Tempe.
“There is an opportunity here that we can capitalize on,” Navarro said. “Tempe has got this synergy now with this downtown creation, with the development around the lake, the stadium district and the business opportunities. It actually has the potential for an international hub.”
But before enticing European and Asian countries to invest in Tempe, the city needs to solidify a trade relationship with the country in its own hemisphere first.
