“I’m running for U.S. Senate,” said Democrat Arizona Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick this morning in an e-mail.

Kirkpatrick is the first Democrat to announce intentions to win the seat held by veteran Sen. John McCain, who has announced for his sixth term.

“Our state is changing. And I think Arizonans deserve a real choice in the next election,” Kirkpatrick wrote.

Democrat Rep. Krysten Sinema and Republic Rep. David Schweikert have been rumored as possible candidates for what will be a featured Senate race in 2016.
