Don’t thank the Super Bowl for metro Phoenix’s soaring home sales, real estate experts say.
Super Bowl XLIX, played in Glendale on Feb. 2, is credited with double-digit increases in city tax revenues and filling 95 percent of the Valley’s hotel rooms the night before the game.
But the Valley’s 39-percent increase in home sales and 51-percent increase in condo sales during March didn’t happen because the nation’s biggest sports event was played here the month before.
Since home sales sagged 14 percent last year, most real estate agents and homeowners looking to sell had hoped the Super Bowl would give the housing market a boost. But the weather didn’t cooperate.
