Lawsuit filed against South Mountain Freeway project

A coalition of community and environmental groups, representing more than 50,000 concerned Arizona citizens, has filed a lawsuit against the Federal Highway Administration and the Arizona Department of Transportation aimed at stopping the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

Those filing suit claim the freeway would destroy a section of South Mountain Park and significantly harm the air quality of more than 15,000 Arizona children going to school along its proposed path.

The lawsuit, is also seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent ADOT from undertaking any further work on the freeway pending the outcome of the lawsuit.
