To the woman holding the sign in Friday’s newspaper that reads “If you don’t live in Tusayan..Shut Up!”, I’m afraid she really misses the point. If the access the Stillo group wanted was across privately owned land, or town of Tusayan land, she would be absolutely correct and I would certainly shut up. However, that is not the case. The access is across public land, so whether you live in New York City, Miami, Seattle, LA, or Flagstaff…we, the public, have a right to express our opinion.
Water has always been the issue, so if the Forest Service is going to grant the Stillo group access I would hope they make it absolutely contingent upon the Stillo group being able to validate that their water delivery system will not negatively affect the seeps and springs of the Grand Canyon, or the state of Arizona in any way.
The saying that goes “Whiskey is for drinking, and water is for fighting” absolutely applies to a state that may see their water ration from the Colorado River significantly reduced in the not-so-distant future.
