The legal dispute between one of Arizona’s most celebrated winemakers and the operators of the state’s largest winemaking facility is ostensibly over money. But the court papers also focus on something more esoteric: what it means to be a winemaker in Arizona.
The court battle is a result of a contract dispute between Rob Hammelman, co-owner, along with his wife, of Sand-Reckoner Vineyards and Scott Dahmer, co-owner, along with his wife, of Aridus Wine Company.
The collaboration between the two was set to boost the winemaking potential of the Willcox area, where most of Arizona’s wine grapes are grown.
