Surprisingly strong gains reported in state tax revenues

The good news is that state revenues surged in April.

The catch is that budget analysts aren’t sure if the gains will last.

Buoyed by surprisingly strong showings in both individual and corporate income tax collections, the state collected $141 million more than what was assumed in the recently enacted budget.

Year-to-date, the state took in $228 million more than anticipated.
