Tempe councilman rebuffed on crusade to end food tax

You can add another failed crusade to the dustbin of history.

Tempe Councilman Kolby Granville won’t get the city’s food tax repealed.

The defeat marks the second time Granville’s colleagues rebuffed his food tax proposal.

His plan called for ending the food tax and raising the overall sales tax from 1.8 percent to 1.92 percent to cover any lost revenue.

Granville had pushed for removing the tax because he believes it disproportionately harms the poor.
