State school officials say an apparent oversight in the state budget approved earlier this year could require a handful of districts to pay back millions of dollars for past funding received for district-sponsored charter schools.
Jeff Van Handel, business manager for the Casa Grande Union High School District, said he does not know how much the district would have to pay back.
The district has had a charter school — Casa Verde High School — since 2001.
“I think we could figure it out, if we had to,” he said, “but I have no idea what that number is right now.”
