Babeu stiffs staffing study

Sheriff Paul Babeu’s steadfast refusal to cooperate with a third-party patrol staffing study has left Pinal County leaders at wits’ end.

Wednesday’s work session of the Board of Supervisors was the second opportunity for Babeu to discuss his position publicly with the board and with Leonard Matarese, director of research for the Center of Public Safety Management, the organization hired by the county to complete the study.

For the second time, Babeu did not attend the meeting, nor did he send anyone from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office to speak on his department’s behalf.
