After peaking in late 2004, the home ownership rate has been on a steady decline, particularly among young and middle-aged households. But baby boomers have shown a strong desire for home ownership, even through the housing crisis.
Home ownership rates for households age 65 and up are higher than most other age groups. What’s more, the rate grew 2.5 percentage points in the 1994-2014 period among baby boomers as other age groups saw a drop, according to a new analysis by Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies.
